Paralysis Tick TICKS
Active Pest Control
Ticks belong to the Insect Order Acarina. They have their heads and bodies fused into one region and in this way may be distinguished from spiders. They have four pairs of legs in the adult stage, although, like mites, the immature forms have three pairs. Ticks may cause the death of warm-blooded animals by introducing toxins into the blood-stream, or cause non-fatal infections. There are many species of ticks, and their identification is usually a task for the specialist. General entomoligists usually refer ticks to a specialist. The elimination of paralysis ticks from an area is not possible without the use of insecticides and the removal of natural host animals.

TREATMENT:
Chemical spraying of foliage and areas suspected of harbouring ticks is the most effective deterrent along with the following methods to facilitate exclusion.

EXCLUSION:

1: Reduce or eliminate moisture from known tick areas.
2: Reduce weeds and unwanted low vegetation.Keep grass cut where possible.
3: Exclude or discourage ( but do not kill ) bandicoots, as they are natural hosts of the paralysis tick.
4: Have a pest control technician spray areas known to harbour ticks, using an approved insecticide such as bendiocarb, carbaryl, chlorpyrifos or diazinon.
5: Inspect pets regularly.  When ticks are located they should be carefully removed with forceps.
6: Wash animals in a solution containing an insecticide approved for that purpose.  Carefully follow the directions on the label for this treatment.

Whenever illness of people or animals is suspected seek medical or veterinary advice immediately.
