![]() BIRD LICE AND MITES
Bird mites are commonly associated with the pigeon and sparrow. They are a blood-sucking parasite of these birds. They often become a problem for humans when separated from the host birds, and are in search of food. Mites belong to the Insect Order Acarina and the most commonly encountered are the Tropical Fowl mite, the Red Poultry mite and the Starling mite. They can be up to 1mm in length and are a yellowy-greyish colour but turn red after feeding. |
